Hawaii County is seeking resident volunteers to fill vacant seats on county boards and commission.
The following boards and commissions have current vacancies:
• Board of Ethics, one at-large seat, term expires Dec. 31, 2025;
• Environmental Management Commission, District 3 seat, term expires Dec. 31, 2025;
• Game Management Commission, District 7 seat, term expires Dec. 31, 2022;
• Kailua Village Design Commission, seven vacancies, see hawaiicounty.gov for details;
• Leeward Planning Commission, one vacancy, North Kohala Judicial District seat, term expires Dec. 31, 2022;
• Pension Board, one at-large seat, no expiration date given;
• Police Commission, one vacancy, District 9 seat, term expires Dec. 31, 2022;
• Salary Commission, five vacancies, District 1 seat, term expires Dec. 31, 2026, District 3 seat, term expires December 31, 2025; District 5 seat, term expires Dec. 31, 2023; District 6 seat, term expires Dec. 31, 2022; and District 8 seat, term expires Dec. 31, 2024;
• Tax Board of Review, one at-large seat; term expires Dec. 31, 2026;
• Transportation Commission, two vacancies, District 4 seat, term expires Dec. 31, 2022; and District 6 seat, term expires Dec. 31, 2022.
Pomaika‘i Bartolome, an executive assistant to Mayor Mitch Roth, said the co0unty has 30 active boards and commissions.
Bartolome said service on a board or commission “not only provides an opportunity for citizens to have a voice in their county government but helps to influence decisions that shape the quality of life for Hawaii Island residents.”
